In 1983 Trudy and Keith Kramer acquired their 60 acre property in the Yamhill-Carlton appelation, eventually planting 22 acres of vines. Along with their daughter and winemaker Kim Kramer, we specialize in estate-focused Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and sparkling wines.

Featured Event: Whole Cluster Trial Pinot Noir Flight

Fridays-Sundays, this October

It's harvest season, and in the coming weeks, our crush pad is going to be full of fruit and fermentation! In addition to seeing our crush pad in action, tasting grapes, juice, or fermenting must, taste a set of unique Pinot Noirs from the 2014 vingage.
 
One of the first winemaking decisions we make with the Pinot Noir, is to destem or leave the fruit intact. This choice has a tremendous impact on the wine, influencing fermentation dynamics profoundly. In 2014, we harvested five tons of Pinot Noir from the same part of the vineyard, and separated the fruit into five fermenters. We added a whole cluster layer in four of these vats, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. The fifth bin was all destemmed. We proceeded with our typical fermentation management protocols, with pumpovers and punch downs twice daily, and pressing at dryness. The wines were aged in older French oak barrels and bottled the winter of 2016.
