Kramer Vineyards

2023 Pinot Gris Estate – Yamhill-Carlton AVA

2023 Pinot Gris Estate – Yamhill-Carlton AVA
40-Year-Old Vines | Terraced Hillside Block | Dry-Farmed | Citrus. Stone. Clarity.

A bright, clean white from 40-year-old dry-farmed vines—this is Oregon Pinot Gris at its most expressive and food-friendly.

Planted in 1986 and farmed without irrigation ever since, Kramer Vineyards’ estate Pinot Gris vines have weathered decades of Oregon’s climatic ups and downs. In 2023, nature offered a more balanced rhythm—warm, dry, and steady—allowing for an early September harvest with beautifully developed fruit. This Pinot Gris was fermented and aged in stainless steel to showcase its natural vibrancy. At just 0.1 g/L residual sugar and 13.5% alcohol, it’s a clean, dry white with precision and poise. Expect aromas of Meyer lemon, green pear, and white peach with a subtle floral lift. The palate is crisp and linear, driven by citrus zest, orchard fruit, and a hint of saline minerality. A bright finish lingers with refreshing energy. Perfect for picnics, seafood, or just keeping a chilled bottle on hand—this is classic Oregon Pinot Gris done right.

A dry, mineral-driven white from 40-year-old estate vines—just $18.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Shimmering pale straw in the glass. Aromas of Meyer lemon, green pear, and white peach rise from the glass with a hint of honeysuckle. On the palate, vibrant acidity frames layers of citrus zest, orchard fruit, and wet stone. Crisp and linear, with a refreshing, dry finish and lingering minerality.
Vineyard Notes
Planted in 1986, this terraced, dry-farmed block captures afternoon warmth—concentrating ripeness, varietal character, and texture. At the same time, natural drainage and shallow marine sedimentary soils typical of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA moderate vigor and promote intensity in the fruit. Unlike flatter or shaded sections of the vineyard, this slope traps heat efficiently, offering a subtle advantage in Oregon’s cool-climate growing seasons. Over nearly four decades, these vines have endured the region’s evolving climate, producing consistently flavorful, low-yielding fruit. Harvesting at peak ripeness preserves freshness, while cool stainless steel fermentation locks in the vineyard’s vibrant signature: crisp acidity, aromatic lift, and mineral clarity.
Production Notes
Harvested on September 18, 2023 at 22.1° Brix. Fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve purity of fruit and crisp acidity. Bottled on May 9, 2024 with 0.1 g/L residual sugar. Final stats: Alcohol 13.5%, pH 3.13, TA 5.8 g/L.
Winemaker Notes
“2023 brought a welcome return to balance. After several extreme vintages, we had a steady, warm, dry season that let the fruit ripen naturally and cleanly. The goal was to keep it fresh and precise—letting the site and fruit speak clearly through stainless steel and minimal handling.” – Kim Kramer, Winemaker
Food Pairing Notes
