2017 Pinot Noir – Dijon Clone 777 | Library Release
The “night bottle” of the Dijon trio • Deep fruit, spice, and the longest finish
Dijon 777: The Night Bottle
Library Release • 2017 Vintage • Bottled June 2019 • 6+ years in bottle • Single-Clone Pinot Noir
The Clone with Structure
If you lined up the three Dijon clones at a tasting, 777 would be the one you'd save for dinner. Not because it needs food to be good—but because it's built for the table.
Clone 777 consistently produces wines with darker fruit, more natural tannin, and a spice-driven finish that makes you want another bite. In Burgundy, it's prized for structure. In Oregon, it's become a workhorse clone for winemakers who want Pinot Noir with grip.
If 115 is the classicist and 667 is the perfumer, 777 is the night bottle—the wine you open when conversation is flowing and dinner is on the table.
Clone Character:
- Origin: Selection from Burgundy's Vosne-Romanée
- Known for: Structure, spice, darker fruit expression
- Fruit profile: Boysenberry, blackberry, dark cherry
- Aromatic signature: Cola, black tea, baking spice, savory edge
- Why we love it: Natural grip without heaviness, built to pair with food
At 6+ Years: Seamless
Boysenberry, blackberry, cranberry, cola, black tea, spice. Light to medium-bodied with enough tannin to give it shape, and a long, spicy finish.
Even in 2017's light-bodied, generous vintage, Clone 777 shows its personality. It's the deepest and most spice-driven of our three Dijon clones—not because it's heavy, but because the DNA leans that way. Six years in bottle has softened the edges while keeping the intensity intact.
This is Pinot Noir with savory complexity—the kind that gets better as the evening unfolds.
How to Serve
Temperature: 55–60°F (slight chill keeps it focused)
Decant: 30 minutes (lets the spice and black tea notes bloom)
Pair with: Duck, pork tenderloin, lamb, mushroom dishes, soy-glazed salmon, aged cheeses

Why Clone Matters
Pinot Noir clones are genetically identical—they're all the same grape. But over centuries, spontaneous mutations caused by "jumping genes" have created variations. When Burgundian growers selected vines from Vosne-Romanée, they were choosing for specific mutations that created natural structure and spice. Those mutations don't change when you plant them in Oregon—they just express themselves through Yamhill-Carlton terroir. This is what selecting for mutations tastes like.
