Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Aromas of red currant, raspberry, black cherry, plum, loganberry, warm spice and cola, with a faint truffle note. Light-bodied with bright, mouthwatering acidity and fine, integrated tannins; the palate spreads to every corner, then holds a long, even line. Black raspberry and dark plum lead, layered with black pepper, allspice, bacon fat, and black cherry. Savory finish with lingering spice and length.
Vineyard Notes
From our Heritage Block (Block 3)—0.99 acres of own-rooted Pommard (planted 1984) on a south-facing slope (~724 ft) over Peavine/Willakenzie marine-sedimentary soils. Deep, old-vine roots and quick-draining sediments foster even ripening and fine-grained tannins, giving a red-fruited core with subtle tea/earth nuance and a supple, open mid-palate from classic 5×10 spacing.
Production Notes
Harvested Oct 20, 2022; ~75% whole cluster with no intentional cold soak; cool primary fermentation in open-top tanks ran ~50–55 days with gentle pigeage, one daily pumpover, and occasional délestage; complete malolactic in barrel; élevage 18 months in French oak (25% new, balance neutral); sterile filtered; bottled May 9, 2024; ~100 cases.
Winemaker Notes
In 2022 the cellar stayed cool, so we let fermentations run slow and kept the touch light to let the block speak. We set ~75% whole cluster (no intentional cold soak) for aromatic lift and a filament-fine tannin, then used a gentle cap program—pigeage with one daily pumpover and occasional délestage. Élevage ran 18 months in French oak (25% new; balance neutral) to frame, not mask, the red-fruited core. Bottled May 9, 2024 with sterile filtration for polish and stability.
Food Pairing Notes
Wild chinook salmon with cherry gastrique; duck breast with roasted cherries; porcini risotto; herb-crusted lamb chops. Serve 60–62°F in a Pinot bowl; decant 30–45 min.
