2022 Pinot Noir Nouveau
Available November 17
The third Thursday of November marks the worldwide release of Beaujolais Nouveau! Since World War II, these fruity, easy-drinking wines have been enjoyed in celebration of the recent harvest, delivering a first glimpse into the quality of the vintage. Nouveau's popularity grew outside of Beaujolais, culminating in the race to Paris to see who could deliver the wines to merchants on the designated day of release first. The arrival of the Nouveau wines were met with all-night celebrations with plenty of wine, food, and fireworks! The release of these wines is carefully controlled by the French government. By law, the wines cannot be sold prior to International Nouveau Day, which has been the Thursday before Thanksgiving since 1985.
In celebration of this tradition, we're releasing our 2022 Nouveau Pinot Noir, a wine produced in this style. Whole clusters of hand harvested Pinot Noir were placed in a sealed tank to undergo a process called carbonic maceration, also called whole berry fermentation. Carbonic Maceration is responsible for Nouveau's signature flavor profile: an anaerobic fermentation from the inside out, as opposed to traditional aerobic ferments, from the outside in. This technique preserves the fresh, fruity quality of the grapes, without extracting bitter tannins from the skins. The resulting wines have aromas of banana, strawberry, fig, and pear, and are meant to enjoy immediately.
